Students’ support activity for the INGV operations centers of Vulcano and Stromboli

DiSTAR is once again participating this year in the INGV initiative aimed at involving students from various Italian universities in outreach activities at the visitor centers of the Vulcano and Stromboli
operational centers during the summer months. Under the supervision of a researcher, the students’ task will be to provide the public with scientifically accurate information regarding volcanic activity
in the Aeolian Islands. DiSTAR is opening a selection process for interested students. The requirements for participation are listed below. Students who have participated in previous years may also apply; their applications will be considered only if all available positions are not filled by first-time participants.

DiSTAR has been asked to nominate six students willing to participate in the initiative. The shifts, scheduled on a weekly basis, will cover the period from June 30 to September 30. Students are expected to arrive at the assigned center on Tuesday morning (by 12:00 noon) and depart the following Tuesday no earlier than 2:00 p.m., in order to allow for a proper handover. The Visitor Hall will be open to the public every day of the week for six hours per day. Regular opening hours will be from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. From an administrative point of view, INGV will allocate funds to the selected universities to reimburse each student for round-trip travel and food expenses. These expenses, which may not exceed the average amount of €60.00 per day per student, will be reimbursed to the respective universities upon submission of a debit note issued by the university concerned. Students must submit to Prof. Petrosino and Prof. Daniele Morgavi (email:  This email address is being protected from spambots. - A brief curriculum vitae, including information on any periods spent abroad (e.g. Erasmus) and knowledge of foreign languages (English, French, German)
- Certificate of bachelor’s degree, including exam grades and final graduation mark
- Transcript of exams for students enrolled in a master’s degree program
- Transcript of exams for students enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program
- Indication of the week(s) of availability

Four positions will be reserved for students enrolled in the Master’s Degree in Volcanology.
Among students enrolled in Italian-taught master’s degree programs, preference will be given to
those who completed their bachelor’s thesis in Volcanology, Petrography, or Geophysics.
